Citygritty -- Pune

Namita, Aishwarya and Rasika
Taking off
The kids are going to love it and the adults are going to learn from it. An exhibition on the ideal international airport has been organised at the Police Recreation Hall, Shivajinagar, till June 15. Padmakar Nagarkar, the man behind this unusual exhibition, has made model planes from waste material and the airport includes all the components of a modern airport - an arrival and departure building, a control tower and various types of planes.

This is the part that will enthrall the kids. But there's more. There's information on careers in aviation, the various airlines, the internal plans of airplanes and the like. Thought you knew all you needed to know about airports and airplanes? Take look at this exhibition.

Bon courage
As news of our brave soldiers fighting against heavy odds in Kargil and other fronts filter in, citizens in various parts of the country have shown their gratitude to the men on the front. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity to the soldiers, some Puneites have appealed to the government to sound a siren at 10 a.m. on one particular day of the week when citizens will observe a moment's silence as an expression of their united feelings of gratitude towards the Indian armed forces.

The signatories of this appeal have suggested that the sounding of the siren be continued till the situation along the Line Of Control is brought back to normal. The signatories include N.G. Paranjape, Vidya Bal, Dr. G.N. Joglekar, Nirmala Sathe, Bal Pandit, Shyamala Vanarase, P.C. Shejwalkar and Dr.H.V. Sardesai.
