Malik, Gaur shape RR Gymkhana win

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, June 13: A steady knock of 60 (4x4, 1x6, 97 balls) by Gagan Malik and accurate spells of bowling by Nischal Gaur (3 for 30), Sandeep Angurala (2 for 25), Raja Gurmit (2 for 34) and Joginderr Singh (2 for 25) helped Rohtak Road Gymkhana beat Rajnigandha Club by 16 runs in the final of DDCA Hot Weather tournament which concluded at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here today.

R R Gymkhana will earn Rs 30,000 for their victory while the runners-up will get Rs 20,000. The winners' trophy and other prizes will be given at the annual function to be held later this month.

A 61-run partnership for the third wicket between gagan Malik and Neeraj Chawla (22) and 46 for the fourth wicket between Gagan and Pradeep Chawla (28) were the highlights of R R Gymkhana innings after they elected to bat first. Akash Malhotra chipped in with 35 which included a six and a boundary and came off 51 deliveries. Pratap Rawat and Rakesh Bhatia claimed three wickets each.

Despite a 56-run stand for the fourth wicket between Devender Singh (43: 2x4) and Deepak Anand (28), Rajnigandha were never in the game as R R Gymkhana bowlers kept the batsmen under check. Rajiv Rathore contributed 25 off 21 deliveries. From a healthy-looking 116 for four in 30 overs, they collapsed to lose by 16 runs.
Brief scores: Rohtak Road Gymkhana: 179 for 7 in 40 overs (Gagan Malik 60, Akash Malhotra 35, Pradeep Chawla 28, Neeraj Chawla 22, Pratap Rawat 3 for 26, Rakesh Bhatia 3 for 27). Rajnigandha: 163 all out in 38.5 overs (Devender Singh 43, Deepak Anand 28, Rajiv Rathore 25, Nischal Gaur 3 for 30, Sandeep Angurala 2 for 25, Raja Gurmit 2 for 34, Joginder Singh 2 for 25).
