New Delhi, June 21: A senior IAS officer in the Delhi Government has offered to fight the enemy in Kargil sector ``in keeping with the spirit of patriotism and call of national duty.''In a letter to the Army Chief, N Diwakar, director in the Department of Social Welfare, said he was commissioned in the Indian Army as an officer in 1964 and was released from the force after five years of service.
After being selected for IAS, Diwakar rejoined the Army as a special short service commissioned officer in the wake of the 1971 Indo-Pak war and was posted with a divisional headquarters located at Leh as staff captain for two years.
Offering his services to the Army for the third time, Diwakar said his decision has been prompted by the threat posed to the security and integrity of the country in the wake of intrusions by Pakistan army regulars and mercenaries in the Kargil/Drass sector ``where I was posted during my stint with the Indian Army.''
``The soldier in me has awakened me to rise to the occasion andto do something more important for the motherland. I am willing to serve in whatever capacity I am deemed fit to do,'' Diwakar said in his soul-stirring letter.
