CHANDIGARH, June 21: Guru Harkrishan Society has proposed to award scholarships worth Rs 5 lakh to financially backward and bright children during the current financial year and has invited applications for the same.Last year, Rs 4.33 lakh worth of scholarships were awarded to 330 students.
The candidates seeking admissions to vocational, managerial, technical, medical and educational institutions, should have secured at least 80 per cent marks in the previous examination and the income of the parents should not exceed Rs 6,000 per month.
According to R. S. Rawel, secretary of the society, the students belonging to extremely poor families, orphans or those suffering from any physical disability would be given special consideration.
