CHANDIGARH, JUNE 21: Various organisations in the city are organising blood donation camps to commemorate the services of soldiers who laid down their lives fighting for the nation.Friends Blood Donors and Welfare Association will organise a mass blood donation camp on June 23 at Ramgarhia Bhawan, Sector 27, from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The camp will be inaugurated by Satwant Singh Gill, who has donated blood 113 times. Brig Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (retd), who fought at Laungewala against Pakistani tank assaults during 1971 war, will give away mementoes to the blood donors.
Chandigarh Adventurer's Association will organise a blood donation camp at Srinagar on July 9 to help soldiers in the Kargil sector. After donating blood the members of the association will undertake an expedition to Mt Nun in Suru Valley, Jammu and Kashmir.
Drive for donations
The CHB Residents Joint Action Committee today launched a campaign to collect funds for the welfare of the bereaved families of Kargil victims. The residents collected Rs 13,701 for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
and also observed a two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs.
Meanwhile, the staff members of the Sanawar (Solan) branch of the State Bank of Patiala have donated a day's salary for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, in view of the ongoing military operations in the Kargil-Drass sector. This was stated by bank manager S.C. Dhall.
