SAD(A) threatens to cut power to Punjab CM's residence

PATIALA, JUNE 21: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) today threatened to cut power to the official residence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and chairman of Punjab State Electricity Board(PSEB) S. K. Tuteja, if the state government did not accept the demands of farmers soon.

Satnam Singh Behru, president of the Kisan wing, while talking to The Indian Express after the dharna, said the party has taken this decision, but no date has been finalised till yet. He said the party has decided to give some time to the government to settle down and take a decision on their demands soon.

While addressing the dharna, SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann said the state government had failed to solve the demands of farmers as a result causing hardships to the farmers. Mann said due to the power shortage, the farmers were facing difficulty in paddy transplantation. He said the farmers were getting power supply for hardly three hours.

Mann said every section of the society was annoyed with the state govenment because of its wrong policies and added the state government, headed by the SAD-BJP combine had failed on all fronts, especially price rise as a result the poor people could not make both ends meet.

Speaking on this occasion, Prem Singh Chandumajra, general secretary, All India Shiromani Akali Dal, said the state government had failed to take timely decisions to solve the problems of farmers.

He said the PSEB authorities had failed to include the representatives of people in the dispute settlement committees (DSCs).

Among those who spoke on the occasion included Jagir Singh, president, Janata Dal and Ajitinder Singh Moffar, MLA.
