Additional collector asks operators to pay tax
Additional Collector M B Patel has asked cable operators to deposit entertainment tax for April and May with interest by June 30. Announcing that operators were supposed to give their clients their connection numbers and the receipt with the operator's registration number, Patel said subscribers could complain against operators if they did not get the receipt. Erring operators and those without valid registrations would be prosecuted, he added.

STKU president
N A Shaikh was been appointed president of the ST Karmachari Union, Surat Division, at the union's special general meeting on Monday. The meeting, attended by 500-odd members, accepted the resignation of outgoing president Farukh Motala and paid tributes to soldiers who have died in Kargil.

SEC meeting
The consultative committee of the Surat Electricity Company will meet at 5.30 pm on June 29. The convener of the Surat Citizen's Council Trust represents subscribers on the committee, which has been set up to redress subscribers' grievances. Written complaints may be sent to the SCCT office at 205/206, Tirupati Plaza, Nanpura before 4 p.m. on June 25.

Folk Fair
Twenty-two child artists of two city-based dance academies -- Utkarsh Natya Academy and Rang Puhar -- are leaving for Canada to take part in an International Folk Fair under the guardianship of Behnaaz Tadiwala. A release said the children had been rehearsing for the festival for the past few months.

Appointed
Bina Brahma has been appointed the vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha. A party release said that she joined as a party worker in 1984 and has served as ward treasurer of the Mahila Morcha, president of the city Mahila Rakshan Samiti.
