Admission rush still on in schools

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, June 22: With home school admissions drawing to a close, the rush for admissions continues to be high in primary and secondary schools accepting students from other institutions, according to city-based school principals.

The principals, while stating that the science list was already declared, said that the admission rush for commerce stream was more than that of previous year. Admission lists have been declared in most schools.

Principal of Baroda High School, Alkapuri, Arnawaz Havewala said, ``This year, for unknown reasons, the rush for science is more than that for commerce.'' She added that though the admission process was over, it was open for those who came from other parts of the State or country.

As the pass percentage this year was higher than that of last year, the rush had increased, she pointed out.

According to principal of Alembic Vidyalay Harshad Patel, though the number of students who had applied for admissions had increased, the school was being very selective in admitting students.

Principal of New Era Girls High School Nilaben Pandya said that the number of students applying for science was less than those opting for commerce. She added that though the pass percentage was high this year, their school was geared up for granting more admissions in the science branch, though to no end, it now appeared.

Expressing her opinion, principal of Jivan Sadhna School Manimala Sharma said that though the demand for admissions had generally been met, the procedure was still on. She added that the process was primarily on for those applying in the outsiders' and the reserved quota.

Sharma said that they were prepared to cater to the admission rush as they knew that the result was 11 per cent more than that of previous year.
