EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, June 22: Two women of a marriage party died on the spot and 53 others were injured when a tempo in which they were travelling overturned on the Mahuva-Anaval Road on Monday afternoon. The injured are being treated at hospitals in Bardoli, Anaval and Vansda.

The incident took place at around 2 pm when a marriage party was travelling from Tarkali village in Mahuva taluka to Mahuva for a marriage ceremony. The driver of the tempo (GJ 9 T 7537), who has been identified as Koylu, lost control of the vehicle on a turning, throwing it off the road.

Two women, Jaya Thakore Koldha (14) of Tarkali village and Sushila Magan Koldha (25) of neighbouring Raanat village, died on the spot while 53 others received minor injuries after the tempo overturned.

The tempo driver is absconding. A complaint was registered by one Balu Prabhu Koldha, a resident of Tarkali village who was also in the tempo. PSI G K Jhala of Mahuva police station is investigating the case.
