Indian girls for World Junior squash

NEW DELHI, June 22: A four-member Indian girls team will be leaving for World Junior Squash Championship to be held at Antwerp in Belgium from July 25 to August 7.

The team consists of Deepali Anvekar, Supriya Balsekar (both Mumbai), Pia Abraham and Vaidehi Reddy (both Tamil Nadu), according to information.

Interestingly, 13-year-old Joshna Chinappa of Tamil Nadu, who won the Malaysian Junior (under-15) title last month beating Pia in the semi-finals, was not called for the trials held in Chennai from June 17 to 20. The coach and the manager of the team are yet to be named, the official added.

Natl chess for the blind
Eighty top players will compete in the Bank of Baroda National Chess Championship for the blind organised by the All-India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) at Andheri Sports Complex, Mumbai, from June 23-27. The players, including defending champion Vilesh Bhat of Maharashtra, have made it to the nationals by qualifying from the four zonals held earlier.

The players would be involved in a nine-round Swiss league with two rounds each played on the first four days and the last round on June 27 to decide the champion. Also at stake would be places in the Indian blind team for forthcoming international tourneys.
