Widow donates Rs 2 lakh to Express fund

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 26: An aged Christian widow from Kerala has contributed Rs 2 lakh to the Kargil relief fund of The Indian Express.

The contribution of the 90-year-old woman outweighs other donations received so far at the office here. There was no fanfare associated with the contribution, which came in like any other draft.

When a team from the Indian Express tracked her down to her house, she did not want anyone to know that it was she who had donated the money. She insisted that her anonymity be retained. Ever so graciously, she said, ``I have donated money to other just causes but this is the first time that someone has acknowledged. I feel privileged to have done something for our heroic brothers who are fighting for the country in Kargil,'' she said.

As the IE team took leave, the woman said, ``I know I do not have much time left and would only be happy to do all I can for the country. I would prefer to be like the unknown soldier''.
