MUMBAI, JUNE 27: After the spate of flyovers, the hard facts. Beginning July 12, Mumbaikars, specifically car owners, will have to start paying up for the flyover boom in the city. The Public Works Department has issued notifications for collecting toll from all entry points into the city beginning July 12.The notification, published in the newspapers last Thursday, exempts two-wheelers from the toll. Minibuses will have to pay Rs 25, trucks and buses Rs 50 and truck-trailers Rs 100 at all four entry points.
These new toll is already being collected at the Mulund-Airoli bridge commissioned in January. The Public Works Department (PWD) hopes to mop up an estimated Rs 100 crore annually from the four toll check points.
Earlier, the May 2 deadline for toll collection had been postponed following a combination of bureaucratic delays and political indecision.The Public Works Department will collect these toll rates for 30 years, till the year 2029, to repay the Rs 1,550 crore loan it raised to build 55bridges and flyovers in the city.
