VADODARA, June 27: Hundreds of telephone lines which went phut in the Karelibaug area on Saturday were restored late in the night. Phone numbers starting with 42 and 46 were the worst hit, said telecom officials.Talking to Express Newsline, Deputy General Manager (DGM), Department of Telecommunication (DoT), Vadodara division, Ramakant Sharma said that the phone-lines were snapped following a snag in an equipment in the Karelibaug exchange. ``Officials immediately carried out the repairs and the fault was rectified in couple of hours,'' he added.
While Sharma denied that the disruption was on account of the fault in the underground cables, he also denied any problems in the Panigate exchange and said that no complaints were received from telephone subscribers from the area.
Meanwhile, following the disruption in services, there were speculations that the underground telecom cables had been dug up by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and questions were being raised about the recent resolution by the DoT and the VMC that the controversy -- regarding the cable laying -- had been resolved. But with the DGMs assertion, the controversy was set aside.
