VADODARA, June 27: A 23-year-old resident of Mahalaxmi Society, Padra town, 20 kms from here, tried to shoot herself in the head with the service revolver of her husband Mahipal Pandya, a police sub-inspector at the Padra police station. However, the bullet got entangled just beneath the skin on the left temporal lobe and was removed by doctors at the SSG Hospital this morning. Her condition is stated to be out of danger. The Padra police said she hadn't pressed the trigger with full force. A case of attempted suicide has been registered. However, according to the woman's father, whom Express Newsline met on Sunday, it was an accident.
``My daughter was watching the late night film on TV -- her husband was asleep -- and she had the revolver in her hand. It was a simple accident case'', he said.
Maintaining that she had never had any quarrel or dispute with her husband or in-laws, he said he was informed of the incident -- it occurred around 1 am -- by his son-in-law around 4 am. ``Had he been guilty, he wouldn't have informed me'', he said.
The PSI, however, could not be contacted as he had been called to Padra for investigations. A number of their neighbours, who came to see the victim in hospital, too, said there was no domestic dispute in the family.
In-charge District Superintendent of Vadodara District M V Bhuria, when contacted, said that Sub-Divisional Police Officer Noel Parmar of Dabhoi division had been asked to look into the matter.
