PATIALA JUNE 27: The Punjab INTUC Action Committee has decided to launch a multi-phased agitation in the state from July 6.This was decide at a meeting presided over by Dr Subhash Chander, who is president of the committee. D.C. Sharma, secretary of Patiala unit, said that the committee has decided to start the agitation by organising division-level protest rallies in the state. And the first such rally would be organised at Patiala on July 6. The proposed rally will be organised outside the Patiala Railway Station and a march take out to the office of Divisional Commissioner to submit a memorandum of their demands.
He said INTUC workers from Patiala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar and Sangrur districts will participate in the rally. The action committee would announce the dates for the rallies to be organised at Jalandhar and Ferozepur after the Patiala rally. The committee will also announce the dates for the next agitational programmes under which the district-level dharnas and rallies will be organised.
The demands of the action committee include revision of minimum wages of industrial workers; stopping irresponsible privatisation and introduction of contract system of working in government and semi-government sectors like PRT, Punjab Roadways, FCI, PSEB, municipalities and states procurement agencies; implementing 40 hours per week working in Punjab Roadways and PRTC; 15 per cent house rent to state government employees in Patiala city; restoring LTC and bonus benefits to state government employees; raising income tax limit to Rs one lakh; and assured promotions to all employees after four, nine and 14 years of service. The action commitee also supports the demands and agitation by patwaris and hospital nurses. The action committee also paid homage to the Kargil martyrs.
