Confusion over death
The Chowk Bazaar police have updated a case registered under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to murder. Raju Pitha Virase (26), a resident of Ved Road, had reportedly committed suicide with his four-year-old daughter Neha after jumping into the Tapi from the Singanpore wier with Neha in his arms on June 23. Poverty had forced the man to kill himself and his daughter, who was suffering from blood cancer. The dead bodies of both, the father and the child were recovered later.

Diamond theft
Polished diamonds worth Rs 1.25 lakhs and an electronic weighing machine worth another Rs 15,000 were stolen from a diamond workshop at A K Road, a case registered by Varachha police on Sunday said. Workshop owner Arvind Patel told the police that one of his servants opened the safe in the workshop located at Maruti Chambers, Ashwini Kumar Road, and took away the diamonds and weighing machine at night. He however did not name any person as accused. The Varachha police have registered a case and are investigating.

Assaulted
Dinesh Jayanti, a resident of a slum beside Umarwada Tekra, told the police that one Rakeshbhai abused him verbally before striking him on the cheek with a knife. The complainant told the police that he was assaulted without any provocation and for no apparent reason.

Vehicle stolen
A Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle (GJ 5 AF 1323) was reported stolen from the 1/343 Popat Mohalla area of Nanpura. Apoorva Vinod told the police that his motorcycle was stolen from opposite his house, where it was parked during the night. A case has been registered by the Athwalines police station.
