I'm really concerned and worried about whatever is happening along the LoC in Kashmir. On the one hand, I'm pleased at the diplomatically matureway Prime Minister Vajpayee is handling the situation internationally. And on the other, I feel that so many people are losing their lives, which is a terrible thing to happen. But if you look at it realistically, virtually the whole world is at war. Look at the Iraq issue and for how long it has been going on. I think that a lot of the good things in the world are coming to an end. People who are supposed to be brothers are fighting among themsleves.
I don't think we have all the facts at hand on the Kargil situation. As an Indian, of course, I think that the Pakistanis are completely in the wrong. There has always been the odd sniping, shooting and skirmishes, long before the issue came out in the open in the way that it has now.
I just hope that we are not headed for another war with Pakistan, though all the developments are gradually taking us towards that. This is, indeed, scary, especially the threat of nuclear warfare. And Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif is making some pretty irresponsible comments, which isn't really helping matters at all.
