Coulthard reigns at British GP

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
SILVERSTONE (ENGLAND), JULY 11: David Coulthard, driving a McLaren-Mercedes, led a British 1-2 in an incident-packed British Grand Prix here today with Eddie Irvine in a Ferrari second and Ralf Schumacher in a Williams third.

Mika Hakkinen leads the Drivers Championship despite failing to finish.

The race was marred when Michael Schumacher suffered a broken right tibia on the aborted first lap, ruling him out of at least the next three races.

Coulthard threw himself back into the season title chase as Michael Schumacher escaped serious injury when his car barreled into a retaining tyre wall in the first 30 seconds.

Coulthard took advantage of a slow pit stop -- and later a lost rear wheel -- by teammate and season points leader Hakkinen to grab first place from the Finn midway through the 60-lap race.
