Citygritty -- Pune

Namita and Aishwarya
Fill up your senses
His love for music goes beyond just playing the sarod. Dr Rajeev Taranath, disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, has not only composed music for several South Indian films, but was a Ford Foundation scholar (1989 to 1992). He has researched into the teaching techniques of the Maihar-Allauddin gharana and brought out cassettes. Taranaths's performances have innovative sophistication and thoughtfulness which he brings to the delineation of raags, vibrancy of tone, skillful imagination and aesthetic sense. He has received guidance from Annapurna Devi.

He will perform in Pune and music lovers can get seduced by his music on July 17, at Abasaheb Garware College Hall, Karve Road at 5.30 p.m.

On Kusumagraj's track
Sensitivity and lyricism have proved to be the hallmark of renowned Marathi poet Kusumagraj. These qualities have been employed by the Nashik-based group, Friends' Circle in a programme called Majhya Aanandlokat. It will be staged at the Tilak Smarak Mandir at 9 p.m. on Saturday. Says Mohan Kulkarni of Manoranjan, the group which has brought the programme to the city, ``The programme will trace the poetic journey from the Kusumagraj's early work Vishakha through to 60 selected poems which capture a variety of moods including philosophic, romantic and patriotic. Kusumagraj's poetry lends itself to dramatisation and that is just the way they will be presented.''

The programme has been conceived by Kishor Pathak, himself a poet and directed by Yadav Khairnar. Besides the duo, the other participants include Hemant Takle, Yadav Khairnar, Sadanand Joshi and Sunil Deshpande. Mugdha Korhalkar and Vidya Deshpande have choreographed the presentation.
