EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMBALA, July 16: An agitated crowd of 150 armed persons, protesting against the frequent power cuts in the city, attacked the house of local MLA Anil Vij, on Thursday. Police said the crowd ransacked the street lights in one colony in Ambala Cantonment, prior to making a forced entry into the residence of the MLA and allegedly manhandling the brother of the legislator who came to pacify the crowd. The younger brother of the MLA sustained a fracture in his hand and was admitted to the Civil Hospital. The crowd ransacked a sub-division power station in Ambala Cantonment, police said. While supporters of the legislator alleged that it was a ``Congress sponsored'' attack, the assailants against whom police have registered a case, accused the government of ``fooling'' people on the power issue. The police have registered a case under Sections 143, 149, 323 and 506. It may be recalled that a few days back, an HVPN employee was also allegedly beaten to death by rural masses in a village in Karnal district. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
