PMC has a heart for animals!

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, July 16: Taking serious note of the deaths of a female animal and a tiger in short period of three weeks at Peshwe Park, Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor today initiated various steps to ensure better medical treatment and care of the animals.

Talking to media persons, Kapoor said he had instructed the garden department to put two big boards at important sites in Peshwe Park, displaying information on the number of birds, number of sick birds, number of animals, number of sick animals, date of treatment and the name of doctor attending the animal or bird.

Kapoor vehemently denied the reports that the tiger's skin was missing after the post-mortem. He, however, said he would take written statements of the officers, who were present when the postmortem was being conducted and at the time of burial. Kapoor said he did not see any possibility of tiger's skin being missing but was ready for any inquiry if anybody come forward with some evidence.

Kapoor said the civic administration had finalised appointment of Dr Kazmi Dinyar of Mumbai as deputy zoo superintendent and that her appointment was pending with the city improvements committee. He said he would suggest to the municipal commissioner to appoint a deputy zoo superintendent for six months if the code of conduct was proving to be an obstacle in the appointment.

Kapoor said the administration would undertake a special drive against advertising hoardings in the city since he had received several complaints against them. He said he noticed that several agencies had put up the hoardings without taking prior permission from the municipal corporation. According to Kapoor, the size of several hoardings were bigger than that sanctioned by the administration. He said in a number of cases agencies had used neon sign boards without approval of the administration. Kapoor warned that he would seize hoardings and would impose a heavy fine on the agencies, found violating the rules.

Kapoor said he was planning to launch another drive against dealers of domestic gas cylinders for storing them without taking any precautionary measures. He said he had seized several cylinders in Rasta Peth today following the complaint from the local residents.
