Garware college staff on strike

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, July 16: The junior and senior teaching and non-teaching staff of the Garware College has stopped work indefinitely, after a meeting with the college management on Thursday yielded no solution to their demands.

Harish Desai, chairman of the Pune University Teachers' Association (PUTA) and a professor of Accountancy and Costing at Garware College, said today that the staff had received full co-operation of their students toward the protest.

``We have demanded that the college refund the excess fees charged to the students last year,'' said Desai. ``It is also high time the college started the policy of granting admission to the wards of the teaching and non-teaching staff, on a preferential basis. We do not want to beg for their admission everytime.''
