Youngmen, Frontiers win

NEW DELHI, July 16: Youngmen and Frontiers registered victories over their respective opponents in group-II matches of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Football League Championship at Ambedkar Stadium here today.

Youngmen scored a 3-0 win over Goans Sports Club to gain full points. At the inteval, the winners led 1-0. If the Youngmen played an attacking game on the day, Goan Sports kept themselves busy in guarding their citadel, rather than challengin their opponents. The Goans had their opportunities coming but their imaginating play put paid to their ambitions even as the subdued game took them nowhere.

Striker Shekhar Khanna scored in the 18th minute while converting a penalty-kick awarded by referee Liquat Ali following handling of the ball inside the box by a Goan defender.

On changing ends, Shekhar Khanna consolidated the lead in the 49th minute while inside-left Praveen completed the tally in the 51st minute.

Youngmen Club have collected seven points from three matches while Goans have one point from three matches.

Earlier, Frontiers Club registered an upset win over former champions Mogals 2-1. At the interval, Fronteirs led 2-0.

Frontiers brilliant start with two goals in a span of three minutes promised much from them. But once they took the lead they went into shell and allowed their opponents stage a comeback in the second session. Parvesh put his side ahead in the 10th minute while Puran increaed it in the 13th minute. On changing ends, Mohd. Salim reduced the margin for Moghals in the 48th minute. Fronteirs have five points from four matches while Moghals have only one point from three matches.
