Order returns to Arts

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 22: Order was restored on Wednesday at the M S University's Faculty of Arts, where classes could not be held for the past two days due to violence on the campus.

Classes could not be held on Monday and Tuesday as students went on the rampage to press for admission to all students who had applied. Student leaders maintained that if their demands were not met their agitation would continue.

Union leader Janak Makwana said the faculty should accommodate at least the number of students it admitted last year. He alleged that though many seats were still vacant, the faculty had stopped admitting students. He claimed that even after accommodating students who would clear the July examination, some seats would remain vacant.

Meanwhile, condemning the student leaders' action, members of the All Baroda Students Council said that strict action should be taken against these self-styled leaders. A meeting of the deans of the Faculty of Arts and Commerce and the principal of Padra college was convened by MSU Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane on Wednesday with a view to try and accommodate as many students as possible.
