PUNE, JULY 23: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the traffic police authorities, in a joint survey carried out today, examined the proposal of one-way traffic in Pimpri camp.According to the proposal, the road from Indira Gandhi overbridge to Kalewadi via Shagun chowk, is to be used for one-way traffic. Vehicles coming in the opposite direction towards Shagun chowk from Kalewadi will have to use the road parallel to the river, reach Bhatnagar and then proceed towards the Indira Gandhi overbridge. The proposal is to be examined in detail before inviting suggestions and objections from the citizens.
At present, road towards Kalewadi is highly congested because of the two-way traffic. Parking of six-seater and three-seater autorickshaws at the Shagun chowk further cause impediments in smooth movement of traffic.
The authorities also identified 84 autorickshaw stands in the twin township. Of the 84 autorickshaw stands, 13 need to be shifted elsewhere because they are causing a hurdle in the smooth movement of traffic.
The survey was carried out as a follow-up action to the meeting held last week to discuss the traffic problems. Municipal Commissioner B I Nagrale had asserted that a joint survey will be undertaken to identify various causes of traffic congestions and the necessary action will be initiated within a short period.
The survey team comprised city engineer S D Garade, executive engineer M T Kamble, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Suresh Kamlakar among others. Some of the autorickshaw stands which need to be shifted are at Shagun chowk, Chinchwad railway station chowk, Bhosari PMT chowk, at the Lokmanya Tilak chowk at Nigdi.
