EC goes green, advices shunning of plastic

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, JULY 26: Going with the green campaign, the Election Commission has urged political parties to avoid the use of plastic and polythene in their campaign material.

In a letter written to all major political parties, the commission hoped that the issue would be viewed with the seriousness that it deserved. The party cadres at all levels should be appropriately advised by the leaders, the letter said.

The Election Commission's request comes in response to a complaint from the World Wide Fund for Nature regarding the use of plastic by political parties for preparation of posters and banners.
