MUMBAI, JULY 26: The crime branch officers gunned down a Chhota Shakeel aide in an encounter at Lower Parel in Central Mumbai on Monday evening.Following a tip-off that a Chhota Shakeel aide was likely to come near Morarjee Mill compound to kill a businessman, the police laid a trap for him near R K Udyan at N M Joshi Marg, where the mill is situated. Around 8:50 pm, the police spotted the Yamaha-borne gangster. The police warned him to surrender, but he whipped out his pistol and opened fire at the police.
Firing back in retaliation, the police fatally injured the gangster. He was rushed to KEM hospital where he was declared dead on admission.
The gangster was identified as Khalil Kalpe alias Shatru and there were over 18 cases of murder, attempt to murder, assault and extortion against him. The police have recovered a .9 mm pistol from Shatru.
