On a tip-off, the AIU sleuths intercepted the passenger, Saved Kohnen, when he arrived by a Singapore Airlines flight, AIU sources said. A search of his baggage revealed 1826 gms of gold hidden in grooves of a cabin-bag and a suitcase, the sources said.

On interrogation, he confessed to have smuggled the goods for a monetary consideration of US dollar 300 for one Majid in Mumbai, they said.

Kohnen was remanded to judicial custody till August 8 by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Usha Iyer.
