MUMBAI, JULY 26: The air intelligence unit (AIU) on Monday arrested an Iranian national and recovered gold worth over Rs 7.30 lakh in the international market from him at the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport.On a tip-off, the AIU sleuths intercepted the passenger, Saved Kohnen, when he arrived by a Singapore Airlines flight, AIU sources said. A search of his baggage revealed 1826 gms of gold hidden in grooves of a cabin-bag and a suitcase, the sources said.
On interrogation, he confessed to have smuggled the goods for a monetary consideration of US dollar 300 for one Majid in Mumbai, they said.
Kohnen was remanded to judicial custody till August 8 by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Usha Iyer.
