Shalinitai Patil joins NCP
Satara: Shalinitai Patil, former minister and wife of former chief minister Vasantdada Patil, has left the Shiv Sena to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Shalinitai joined the NCP at a rally of the party held at Satara Road in Koregaon taluka on Sunday.

She was a minister in the former Congress government but jumped to Shiv Sena when it came to power four years ago.

Her brother, Vasantrao Phalke, managing director of Jarandeshwar cooperative sugar factory at Koregaon, joined the NCP recently.

Two pedestrians killed in mishaps
PUNE:
An elderly woman was killed on the National Institute of Banking Management (NIBM) Road on Sunday morning when she was hit by a car. According to the complaint lodged with the Wanowrie police, Gunwantiben Jayantilal Waghela was on her way to the market when a car (MH 12-J-0514) dashed her from behind. She died on the spot. Police have arrested the driver of the car Sharat Jaganath Vaidya (73) on charges of causing death by rash and negligent driving.

In a separate incident a 75-year-old pedestrian was killed in an accident near Koregaon on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road. According to the Shirur police the accused, Dadasau Vishwanath Bharti, a resident of Patila in Ahmednagar district hit Jasraj Meghnath Bosra when his car spun out of control. According to the complaint filed, Bharti was in a Premier Padmini (MH-13-8481) on his way to Pune when the accident occurred. Police claim that Bharti was travelling at a high speed and braked hard causing his car to spin out of control and hit Bosra. The Shirur police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.

Interviews for medical seats
PUNE: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik has sent a notification on the further programme of medical admissions.

Candidates bearing state merit numbers 9201 to 1520 have been called an interview on Monday and on July 31. The detailed programme of the interviews have been posted on the notice board of the college. The candidates have been requested to get the complete details from the BJ Medical College for their interview timings.

One held for rape
PUNE: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Lokmanyanagar slums in Shantinagar, Kothrud on Saturday. According to the complaint, the accused, Mahadeo Nanawant Khude (18) promised the girl that he would marry her and took her out and raped her. The Kothrud police have arrested Khude.

Octroi gain
PUNE:
The `Operation Brigadier Rain' launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to nab octroi evaders from July 1 onwards has netted Rs 19 lakh up to July 24.
