Multi-storied parking lot to come up on F C Road

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JULY 26: Giving a major boost to the proposal of constructing a multi-storied parking lot on the Fergusson College Road, the State Government has lifted the previous reservation of a plot in front of the Fergusson College for a housing scheme for economically weaker sections.

With this development, the civic officials said that the owners of the plot are expected to come up with a proposal to construct a commercial complex on the vacant space left after building a parking lot there.

The project of constructing a multi-storied parking lot along the Fergusson College Road was pending for the last two years as the vacant space of 60,000 sq ft at final plot number 576 - 1, 2 and 3 was reserved for housing schemes for economically weaker sections in the development plan.

The civic administration had sent the proposal of changing the purpose of reservation of the plot to the city improvements committee on January 1, 1996.

The formalities to change the purpose of reservation as per the provision made under section 37 of Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act were started after the general body approved the proposal on May 23, 1996. The civic administration had issued a notification inviting suggestions from the residents.

The final proposal of changing the reservation of the plot was sent to the State Government after it was approved by the general body on September 24, 1997. The officials said the property is owned by five persons. Part of the property was excluded while changing the purpose of reservation due to some legal litigations in the high court.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad today assured the corporators during the general body meeting that the civic administration would do its best to start a truck terminus at Dhankawadi as soon as possible. Replying to a point of order by Shankar Pawar Gaikwad revealed the senior traffic planner has already been instructed to prepare an estimate to build a compound wall to the plot reserved for the purpose.
