According to Sonawane's statement to the Bhosari police, Devanand Parmanand Verma approached his sister on Sunday night and tried to sexually harass her. Sonawane lost his temper and dragged Verma to a workshop in Shantinagar. In an altercation between the two Sonawane allegedly took a crowbar and hit Verma on the head thus killing him.

The police have charged the accused with murder and police inspector H L Ghatge is conducting further investigations into the case.
