CID probes certificate scandal
The State police's Criminal Investigation Department has begun investigating the fake caste certificate scam that allowed 40-odd ineligible students to join the Padra College of Arts and Commerce last year. Sources said the CID had not been set a time-frame, but had been asked to expedite the probe to allow the guilty to be punished.

Caught copying
Bajwa High School principal B Rathod was allegedly caught copying during his M Ed examinations at S P University recently. Sources said the matter was being investigated and that action would be taken after the conclusion of the probe. ``He will probably be barred from admission to any course'', they said.

MSU go-ahead
The State government has given M S University the go-ahead for recruiting 174 temporary lecturers. The university had sought permission to employ 324 teachers; the government is still considering the others.

Traces of rain
The city recorded only traces of rain on Monday, while Jetpurpavi received 1 mm and Waghodia, 8 mm, according to the district flood control room. No rain has been forecast for Tuesday.

Officer joins
Geeta Johri, a 1982 batch IPS officer who went on leave soon after being posted as additional commissioner of police here last month, resumed her duties on Monday. Before being posted here, she was the Additional Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) in Ahmedabad.

Four get bail
Four people -- Kishan Kanhaiya Patel, Saadat Ali Ahmed Ali Syed, Sunil Suresh Patel and Divyang Kanhaiya Patel -- were arrested by the Government Railway Police on Monday and subsequently released on bail in connection with the alleged misbehaviour with and physical assault on GSPCA activist Snehal Bhatt at the Vadodara railway station recently.

Poll transfers
Forty officials in the Collectorate and 17 more in the Panchayat department were transferred in the district for election duty during the forthcoming Parliamentary polls, an official spokesman said. Around 22.62 lakh voters are expected to cast their vote in the district, 48,000 more than last time.
