MSU bandh call fizzles out

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 26: The call for university bandh given by supporters of four students who have been denied admission in M S University as a punitive measure received partial response on Monday.

Only a few classes at the Faculties of Arts, Commerce and Science were affected. The students have been debarred for a year by the varsity authorities after they were found involved in the rampage at the Faculty of Arts last week.

Though all administrative work in the faculty continued but some classes were affected. The four students and their supporters barged into the faculties and made attempts to disrupt the classes. However, normalcy was restored after they had left. ``Just because four students have not been granted admissions why should the whole faculty suffer?'' questioned students of the Faculty of Arts.

Meanwhile, the executive committee of Baroda University Teachers Association (BUTA) has also supported the decision of the Dean of Faculty of Arts Maya Shah and the Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane to debar the four students.

``The decision of not granting admissions to the students has been a very stern step but we only hope that the varsity officials would be able to stick to their stands,'' says a senior professor of the Faculty of Arts.

Kane, however, maintains his stand saying that with the professors and all the deans supporting his stand there was no way by which it would be reverted.

``A stern step has to be taken so that students do not dare to act in such a way,'' said Kane. General secretary of students' union, Prakash Verma said that the decisions taken by the varsity officials were not acceptable to the students.

``If no stern action can be taken on a senate member even after he had hurled abuses in a senate meeting, then why should students suffer?'' asked Verma. Verma said if a similar stern action was taken against the senate member then even the students would not oppose on whatever decision was taken by them.
