Mood of despondency in Pakistan -- Dasgupta

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 26: After its humiliation at the hands of the Indian Army in the Kargil sector, the enemy had realised that occupying Kashmir through military operations was totally impossible. And their dream could only be realised by encouraging secessionism, insurgency and creating domestic disturbances here.

This was stated by Deputy Editor of India Today Swapan Dasgupta while delivering a lecture on `Post-Kargil Scenario' organised by the Bharatiya Vichar Manch here on Sunday.

Dasgupta, who had discussions with a host of Pakistani intellectuals and former ISI chiefs -- including Hamid Gul and Assad Durrani -- said that there was a mood of despondency in Pakistan which was clear from the words like `debacle', `national humiliation', `misadventure' and `failure' being frequently used by intellectuals and the media there while referring to the withdrawal of Pakistani-supported Mujahideens from Kargil.
