BJP seeks to wrest Sena's Haveli seat

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JULY 26: The Pimpri-Chinchwad unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a strong demand for allocation of the Haveli Assembly seat which has been held by the Shiv Sena. The executive committee at its meeting held late on Sunday evening also demanded that only a BJP member from Pimpri-Chinchwad should be given candidature for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat.

The BJP members came down heavily on the style of functioning of former Haveli Shiv Sena MLA Gajanan Babar and charged that he never took the BJP in confidence. The members said that the internal wranglings in the factions of the Shiv Sena would be detrimental to the interests of the alliance and therefore the seat should be given to the BJP.

It would be almost suicidal if the seat was given to Shiv Sena, the members said. A demand was also made that BJP should field its own candidate if the seat was not given to the party.

The members also demanded that a BJP member from Pimpri-Chinchwad should be fielded for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat as the earlier party candidates had failed to develop a rapport with the voters after the last two general elections.

Meanwhile the party will be holding a party workers rally on August 5 when the demands will be put forth before the leaders of the state executive.
