Addressing a press conference at Raj Bhavan here, he announced the appointment of an IAS officer, Kishore Gajbhiye, at present, the deputy commissioner of commercial taxes, as full-time officer on special duty in the university with powers of a pro-vice chancellor.

Following the exposure of the scam in which marks were unduly enhanced in revaluation and tabulation and fake markslists and degrees were issued, the controller of examinations who was also acting registrar, two assistant registrars and several other university officials were arrested and the vice-chancellor and pro vice-chancellor have resigned.

The commissioner of Nagpur division, J S saharia has been givenadditional charge as VC.

Meanwhile, Alexander ruled out a CBI probe into the scandal. While reposing his faith in the police, he complimented them for their excellent work so far.

``I have no doubt in my mind about the ongoing investigation and (am) sure that more culprits will be nabbed by the police,'' he said adding, ``the quality of investigation is good. The police are on the right track and they will carry out the responsibility with great speed and efficiency,'' the chancellor said.

Alexander also announced that the calender of events of the university would be announced in the next three days, results held up would be declared and vacant posts of non-teaching staff filled soon.
