EC says no to DTH Defining the limits of decision-making for the caretaker government, the Election Commission today gave its ruling on a number of government proposals, saying no to DTH and the amendment of the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act but allowing the disinvestment of VSNL. The three-member Commission turned down the proposal saying the issue should await the new government after the general elections.Stringers shocked, not surprised The government had evidence that Pakistan-backed militants were using Stingers or shoulder-fired missiles in areas along the Line of Control. This evidence was available at the highest level with the I. K. Gujral government as early as late 1997. Critics claim that despite this knowledge, the Air Force still went ahead and put gunships into action. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
