Martyrs' bodies airlifted to UP

CHANDIGARH, JULY 27: The mortal remains of two soldiers killed during Operation Vijay were air lifted from Thoise and sent to their native places in Uttar Pradesh today.

Belonging to the 12th Battalion of the Jat Regiment, Nb Sub Rajbir Singh Punia and L/Nk Vijaya Kumar Shukla were killed in artillery shelling in Sub Sector West of the Kargil battle zone on July 26. Nb Sub Punia, hailing from village Rajgaon in Aligarh District, is survived by his wife, Ramawati Devi. L/Nk Shukla from Village Pithipur in Partapgarh District is also survived by his wife, Guddi Devi.

Full military honours were accorded to the fallen soldiers. An honour guard reversed arms and buglers sounded the Last Post followed by the Rouse.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, Chief of the Air Staff, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command and Colonel Commandant of the Jat Regimental Centre.

Those who payed floral tributes included the Air Officer Commanding 12 Wing, Air Cmde S.K. Banerjee, N-Area Commander, Col Shakti Prashad, Col Surjit Singh from Station Headquarters, Chandimandir and other officers and JCOs.

Jat Regiment jawans bid adieu to Naib Subedar Rajbir Singh and L/Nk Vijay Shukla as their bodies leave for their native places in Uttar Pradesh.
