Jari industry should opt for modernisation -- Jyoti

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, July 27: Jari industry in Surat should opt for modernisation to bring down the production costs, said A K Jyoti, Industry Secretary, while addressing a meeting of jari industrialists here. The meeting was convened by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss problems faced by the industry.

According to Jyoti, the State government was eager to solve the pending problems of the industry and had promised to look into the demand for setting up a `Jari Park' which would have facilities like a research and a training centre, apart from a children's park and a refreshment centre.

Suggesting that the industry should develop new designs to survive in today's competitive market, Jyoti said that the industrialists seek help from NIFT and the Handloom Handicraft Board. The industry should also concentrate on evolving new marketing strategies which would help in promoting business, he added.

District Collector Sangeeta Singh, who was also present for the meeting, sought detailed project report on the Jari Park and assured the industrialists of her full co-operation for the project. To reduce production cost in metallic jari, she asked the industrialists to approach research centres.

Earlier, in his welcome address Chamber president Amarnath Dora disclosed that the jari industry had exported Rs 4 crore worth products in the last financial year. He too stressed the need for the Jari Park for the growth of the industry.

Chamber's Jari Committee Chairman Ramanbhai Jariwala said that though the the industry had managed to develop in the congested city area, it nevertheless needed the park on the outskirts of the city. About 50,000 sq yard land will required to build 250 houses.
