SVR offers two new courses

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, July 27: The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology of the city has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India to start a `Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship and Management' here. Admissions for the year-long correspondence course has already begun, a SVR release said.

Officials of the project also said on Tuesday that another post-graduate, post-diploma course -- Certificate in Entrepreneurship in Engineering -- will start from September this year.

Chief project co-ordinator Dr K N Mistry of the EDC here said that the basic aim of starting the DBEM course was to impart proper training to learners so that they could set up their own industries and manage them successfully. The centre will also hold a guidance programme for the same.

Listing down a few benefits, Mistry said that being a correspondence course, it could be studied from the comfort of one's house apart from pursuing a job.

Applicants with a SSC or HSC and with three years work experience can join the course in either January, April, July or October and can choose English, Hindi or Gujarati as medium of instruction, Mistry said.

The fees for the course will be Rs 5000, which could be paid in two installments. Candidates with Science and Technology background as well as candidates from the SC/ST are eligible for a fellowship of Rs 2,500, he added.

Project leader Kapil Arora further added that the SVR was also planning to start a `Certificate in Entrepreneurship in Engineering' from September. ``Classes for this one-year-long course will be held in the evenings and stress will be laid on the engineering aspect,'' Arora said. Candidates with a diploma in Engineering, B Sc or M Sc degrees are eligible to apply for the course which will cost Rs 8,500, he added.

Those interested have been requested to contact the EDC located in the SVR College for further details.
