Court holiday till July 30
The Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court will not function till July 30 due to the disturbance in the city. This was decided at a joint meeting of the Ahmedabad Bar Association and Small Cause Courts Bar Association held on Tuesday. The associations decided not to take up any civil or criminal matters till that date. Mirzapur was already closed and will resume work on July 30.Circular
To ensure free and fair elections, to be held in the State on September 4, Ahmedabad district magistrate V S Gadhvi has issued a circular to arms licence holders having a bearing upon election to surrender their arms. The arms are to be surrendered through the district police officer, along with name, address and licence number.
GU results
Gujarat University will declare results of third MBBS, Master of Dental Surgery and Master of Development Communication, Part I and II on Wednesday, an official GU release said on Tuesday.
MCA course
The Gujarat Law Society will start a Master of Computer Application (MCA) course from August 1999. The Society received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education for 40 seats, instead of the normal 30, a Society press release said. The course has been approved by the Gujarat University also and the entrance examinations will be conducted by the Rollwala Computer Centre of the university.
Renovation
Provision for renovation of Raj Bhavan was made to meet requirements of banquet hall and an auditorium, as plans for a new Raj Bhavan was dropped. No facility of residential accommodation would be added at Raj Bhavan, an official release said on Wednesday.
Donation
The Swaminarayan School run by the Swaminarayan Gadipeeth Sansthan, Maninagar has donated Rs 1,27,000 towards the Army Central Welfare Fund. Acharya Purshottampriyadasji of the Sansthan gave the draft to Lieutenant Colonel Shivkumar on Tuesday.
EVMs demo
The working of the electronic voting machines, to be used in two of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat in the forthcoming elections, will be demonstrated in Ahmedabad city. Demonstrations of the voting machines will be held from August 1 to August 31 at district panchayat office, municipal corporation, Bachat Bhavan, Civil Supplies office, Apna Bazaar, Collector, public relations branch, food controller office in Maninagar, Naroda, Jamalpur and at Rakhial zonal office, an official release from the Ahmedabad Collector said.
