250 killed in train collision
At least 250 people were feared killed and over 300 injured when the New Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail collided head-on with the Guwahati-bound Assam-Avadh Express in the early hours today near Gaisal station, about 80 km from Siliguri, in the Katihar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway. Most of the passengers of the Brahmaputra Mail who died are believed to have been Army, BSF and CRPF jawans.

EC attacks govt on telecom issue
The Election Commission today launched a frontal attack on the government's recent telecom bailout package, reiterating it was unfortunate such a major policy decision had been taken when the country was in election mode. Though the EC has not given any indication as to its final stance, the wording of EC release suggests it may ask the government to keep the package in abeyance.
