AHMEDABAD, Aug 2: The election of chairmen, deputy chairman and members of 14 municipal committees will be held during the general board meeting of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday evening. The election of the members was scheduled to be held on July 29, but was postponed due to communal disturbances in the walled city area. The board members had adopted a resolution to postpone the meeting till August 3.
However, sources in the BJP said that names of the chairmen and deputy chairmen for these committees had been decided during the party's special meeting held on the night of July 28. The names were also forwarded to the party high command at Gandhinagar the next morning where they were cleared by the seniors.
But with several aspirants refusing to throw in the towel, an undeclared fight is going on between the various groups of the party. For most of the committees about 10 to 12 members will be elected. However, for Veterinary Hospital and Bechardas Dispensary two members each will be elected. Though members for the V S Hospital committee were elected recently, some changes are likely at Tuesday's meet.
Sources further said the BJP would retain only half of its committee members as the party wanted to give importance to some of the dedicated workers in view of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Congress has 17 members in various committees and party leaders have indicated that all will be retained.
