Action against Bofors culprits soon -- PM

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, AUG 19: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Thursday said that all the ``real'' culprits in the Bofors case would be brought to book and legal action taken against them as the inquiry in the case is coming to an end.

Addressing an impressive gathering at the Sector 17 Parade Grounds here this evening, the Prime Minister said with all relevant papers in this regard being sent to court, anyone from the public could inspect them. Vajpayee, who had come in support of the local BJP nominee Krishan Lal Sharma, also launched his election campaign in the Union Territory. Vajpayee also listed the achievements of the 13-month-old BJP government and called upon the electorate to vote them in power again to help them complete all the unfulfilled tasks taken up by their government.

Stating that the UN resolution on Kashmir had become irrelevant as Jammu and Kashmir remained an integral part of India, the Prime Minister said Pakistan would not be successful in their attempts to take over any part ofKashmir even in the next 50 years. He said, Pakistan had been attempting to do so in the last 50 years on the basis of strength of arms, but has not been successful yet.

Complimenting the jawans and officers for the Kargil victory, Vajpayee said since "India advocated for peace the world over, we did not cross the LoC even though we could have. We did not do so because we were not weak nor were we under any pressures, but because we wanted to send the message across that we wanted peace.''
