Lanka president urges LTTE, UNP, JVP to join hands

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
COLOMBO, August 22: Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has appealed, for the first time, to the sectarian left party Janatha Vimukthi Perumuna (JVP) along with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the opposition United National Party (UNP) to join her in finding a consensus solution to usher in peace in the next millennium.

Addressing a rally here on Saturday, organised to celebrate her first five years in office, Chandrika said that her government was destined to usher in peace in the next millennium and urged all parties to work for a peaceful solution to end the war.
