Teachers should learn to unlearn

AHMEDABAD, Aug 18: Gujarat, along with the country, needs to build up on its cognitive capital in the 21st century, which can be brought about by teachers and those who teach the teacher, said Dr Ravindra Dave, education advisor to the Government of India, as also the State Government.

The former director of UNESCO Institute of Education in Germany, Prof Dave spoke at length on trends in teacher education in the context of the 21st century last week at the Gujarat University. Teachers today have an opportunity to start a golden age in the 21st century, he told the audience comprising mainly of teachers and teacher-students from Gujarat University and Gujarat Vidyapeeth. Prof Dave said it was important that the teachers learn to unlearn a concept purported in the Indian system. Learning and unlearning should go hand in hand, he said.
