CPI decides to support Bansal

CHANDIGARH, Aug 22: The local unit of Communist Party of India has decided to support the Congress nominee, Pawan Kumar Bansal, for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. cSecretary of local CPI unit, Sohan Lal Bansal, said in a press release here today, that the decision was taken at the CPI's Chandigarh District Council, following the party's national line.

He said that party workers would work to ensure the defeat of BJP and its allies, to prevent them from coming to power at the Centre, and to help ensure victory of secular and democratic forces.

Pawan Kumar Bansal along with Harmohan Dhawan visited the CPI office and appealed at the general body meeting of the party to support his candidature. Gurnam Kanwar, member of the Punjab State Secretariat of CPI, welcomed him and assured all support.

At another meeting, CPI leader S.L. Bansal along with Raminder Singh, Piara Singh Kalsi, A.S. Randhawa appealed to all other secular forces to support the candidature of Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Sharma weighed in gold coins
The BJP candidate, Krishan Lal Sharma, was felicitated by the Market Welfare Association, Sector 44-D in a function here yesterday. Sharma was weighed in gold coins by the association. The association president Anil Vohra assured his association's full support to him in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Sharma thanked them and promised to further help in development of the market and the area, if elected to power.

Others present on the occasion included Harjinder Kaur, Councillor, Parshotam Mahajan, senior vice president local BJP and Chiranjiv Singh, vice president, Akali Dal.
