NEW DELHI: India is sending a 12-member team to the fourth World Karate Championships in Hannover, Germany from August 26-29.

Coach CS Sai Kumar will lead the Indian squad, being invited to any martial art world championships for the first time. The team leaves for Germany on Monday.

Hyderabad XI win

CHENNAI: Hyderabad XI beat MRF XI by a seven-run first innings lead to enter the semi-finals with Indian Airlines (New Delhi), Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), New Delhi and Karnataka in the MRF Buchibabu Memorial cricket tournament.

Hyderabad plays ONGC while Karnataka take on Indian Airlines in the three-day semi-finals to be held at different venues from August 24.

Randhawa 24th

NEW DELHI: Jyoti Randhawa and Amritinder Singh shot identical par 70 last round to finish at joint 24th place as Thailand's Thammanoon Sriroj won the $ 200,000 Tianjin Teda Open golf in Tianjin (China).

Randhawa totalled one under par 279 (68,70,71,70) and Amritinder fired his third successive par 70 round to total 279 (69,70,70,70). Both of them received a cheque of $ 2100 each.

Ali Sher cardedsix over par 76 and ended with a five over par total of 285 (74,68,67,76) and finished joint 40th. He received $ 1300.

BLOOMFIELD: Actress Geena Davis lost her bid to be an Olympic archer, but she said she loves the challenge and will try again in four years.

``I think I did well. I was very happy,'' Davis said on Saturday after finishing 24th out of 28 women competing in the U.S. Olympic trial semi-finals.

Thorpe withdraws

LONDON: Batsman Graham Thorpe has decided to pull out of England's upcoming tour to South Africa and Zimbabwe to spend some time with his family.

The 30-year-old Surrey left-hander said: ``I have not taken this decision lightly and know exactly what it means.''
