Top billing for Chetan, Jwala

MUMBAI, AUGUST 22: National junior runner-up Chetan Anand of Air-India and Jwala Gutta, the winner of the Krishna Khaitan Memorial badminton title, have been given the pride of place in the Junior Grand Prix badminton tournament starting at the Dadoji Konddeo Stadium, Thane, on Monday.

Amar Mohite, who won the under-16 title at the first Grand Prix, has been seeded No 1 in his age category while the 16-year-old Jwala, one of the latest sensations to hit the Indian badminton scene, is seeded one in the under-16 too. The four-day Grand Prix will have a prize money of Rs 2 lakh spread over the 15 events with the qualifying rounds being played today.

In the qualifying rounds, Maharashtra boys Abhay Thakkar and Merric Gonsalves were impressive with victories. Thakkar defeated Charanjit Singh of AP 21-14, while Gonsalves outclassed KN Raju, also of AP, 21-7.
