Nigerian arrested for possessing fake currency notes

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NASHIK, AUG 23: A Nigerian citizen, James Jonathan (25), was arrested by the railway police at Manmad, for possessing fake Indian currency notes. He has been remanded to police custody till Friday. Police say James was travelling from Delhi to Dharwad in Karnataka by the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express on Friday. At Bhusawal, James paid for his meal with a fake Rs 100 note to a waiter of the train's kitchen.

The waiter, after realising that the note was not genuine, filed a complaint with the railway police when the train arrived at Manmad. A search of James, revealed two currency notes of Rs 500 denomination and two of Rs 100 denomination. The police registered a case against him and produced him in a court, which remanded him to police custody for a week.

James, who is a student of criminology at an institute in Dharwad, reportedly told the police that he had received the notes in Delhi. Meanwhile a tea-stall owner was fined Rs 300 for possessing plastic carrybags, which have been banned by the NashikMunicipal Corporation. A civic squad found him with 20 carrybags of less than 20 microns thickness.
